Southern College was established in 1990 owing to the generous support from the communities. It is the first non-profit community college in the country wholly funded by public donation and is open to Malaysian students of all races.

Southern College aims at providing a pleasant learning environment to students. For instance, there is a beautiful replica of a Chinese garden-the Recreation Park, it is equipped with pavilions, small bridges, lakes, mini waterfalls and landscaping based on the natural scenary of Suzhou District in China. The campus is located 15km from Johor Bahru city centre. As we move further, Singapore is just situated across the causeway. The location of the college is within easy reach from Senai Airport. It is also accessible by road as the front and back routes lead to the North-South Expressway.

Shopping is convenient as there are several shopping centers, within the neighbourhood of 3 to 4 kilometres: they are Giant Hypermarket, Plaza Tasek, Plaza Skudai, Plaza Angsana and Skudai Parade.

  • Four blocks of student dormitory with well equipped facilities and tight security.
  • The library occupies three floors with large collection of books, journals and audio-visual materials and a computerized system of management.
  • The Computer Centre is equipped with the state-of the art computer facilities.
  • A computerized and well-equipped language laboratory for the teaching and learning of languages.
  • Nine lecture halls of different sizes can be used for various activities such as teaching, debates, academic seminars, art performances etc.
  • Wan Heong Hall and the various rooms and opening at the basement level provide ample space for culture activities.
  • There is an arc stage for theatrical performance in the Recreation Park.
  • A football field, two basketball fields, three tennis courts and two volleyball courts are available for various sports activities.
  • School buses travel on regular schedule.
