About Teesside University

Objective

  • Facilitate the student progression, both academic and vocational, by developing knowledge, computing skills and capacity for independent and lifelong learning
  • Provide the students to the general concepts and technologies of computer system in the context of both personal and business use;
  • Develop the ability of the student to manage information technology and computer-based resources to produce a relevant artifact.
  • Provide an understanding of planning, modeling and developing techniques for information system management.
  • Develop the employability skills of the student in future employment

Career Prospects

The programme has been designed for those students who wish to pursue a career in computing. Their qualifications and training will be sufficient to help them obtain a job in the various IT or Commerce related companies. They can become system programmer, system analyst, system engineer, database administrator, multimedia designer, network engineer, network administrator, network infrastructure designer, web designer, etc. Besides, many students of our department have started their own careers, doing businesses related to IT.

Program Detail:

Duration : 3 years (full-time) + 3 months (practical training)
Intakes : February, June and September
Medium of instruction : English
Credits : 40 credits per year, 120 credits in total

Fees

  • The tuition and miscellaneous fees are RM40,600 for the whole course calculated on the basis of a total of 120 credits.

Core Subjects:

Year 1 Modules
Java Programming I, System Design, Rapid Development Tools, Discrete Mathematics, Java Programming II, Introduction to Networks and Computer Security, Web Project, Computer Organization and Architecture

Year 2 Modules
Database Systems, Web Services, Windows Programming, Operating System, Networks and Communications, Rapid Developments System, Enterprise Project

Year 3 Modules
Software Architecture, Advanced Database System, Practical Project I, IT and People, Business Computing Strategy, Practical Project II

MQA Compulsory Subjects
The Malaysian Qualifications Agency(MQA) requires Malaysian students without a minimum of C6 in SPM Bahasa Melayu, to take compulsory subjects in Bahasa Kebangsaan A. Malaysian students are also required to take Malaysian Studies and Moral(for non-Muslims) or Islamic Studies

Entry requirement:

Entry into the 1st Year (any one):
Year 1
Students must fulfill EITHER ONE of the criteria below:
1. Two(2) A Level/ STPM/ Pre-U principals or equivalent;
2. UEC Senior Middle III (minimum 5 B’s and credit in English & Mathematics);
3. Southern College Foundation programme;

English requirement
Students must fulfill EITHER ONE of the criteria below:
·SPM credit; OR
·MUET Band 4.0; OR
·IELTS Band 6.0; OR
·Any other equivalent qualification

Entry into the 2nd Year (or the equivalent qualification):
Students are eligible for entry into Year 2 with EITHER:
1. Southern College Diploma in Computing; OR
2. Other recognised relevant diploma
