Diploma in Computer Science

Introduction
The Department of Computer Science was established in 1991. It aims to:

  • provide courses of study base on both academic principles and practical applications
  • design computing courses in accordance with up-to-date technologies
  • prepare students for furthering their higher education and pursuing future employment
Higher education : The link with universities of various countries shortens the time for graduates to pursue a higher degree.
Future employment: The course that emphasized the practical tasks enables the students to: fit into the information technology job market easily.
  • focus on both humanity and technology education
  • raise the students' interest in information technology
  • develop the applications of information technology

Course Features

  • Teaching Staff
The teaching staff of the department has many years of working as well as teaching experience. Certain subjects are taught by senior managers from the private sector who will certainly expose the students to the modern information technology.
  • Seminars and IT Exhibition
The Department of Computer Science has always been stressing both on the development of information technology and the spiritual growth. Lecturers and students are encouraged to attend activities during their leisure time to cultivate their leadership, creativity and analytical thinking.

Lecturers and students are given the opportunity to attend seminars related to upgrading of the IT industry. Second year students are required to complete an IT project as part of their final year requirement, the projects are then exhibited at various strategic venues to the public.
  • Cordial rapport with commercial & industrial sectors
The department has maintained cordial rapport with many companies and organizations. They provide the college students with the latest IT equipment and advanced computer systems to work with. While pursuing their studies, students can have their practical training provided by some companies in the related field. They also sponsor the IT exhibitions.
  • Computer and Research Lab
The students can use the computer center and computer lab to practice their skills and do their research. The department also provides its own computer lab to students, it includes network and communication research lab, hardware lab, software and special projects lab

Prospects
After graduation, students can choose to acquire a degree from America, Britain, Australia, New Zealand, China or Taiwan Universities through credit transfer within 8 months to 2 years. For example, one of our graduates Foo You Cheat had been admitted to China University of Tsing Hua to further his study and awarded merit in his thesis. University of Tasmania, Australia has even praised our students’ excellent performances.

We also offer a Top-up degree (link to University of Glamorgan and School of Beacon Technology) , our graduate students can acquire a degree within 1 years in Malaysia and Singapore.

However, if they prefer working, their qualifications and training will be sufficient to help them obtain a job in the various IT or Commerce related companies, they can become system programmers, system analyst, system engineer, database administrator, multimedia designer, network engineer, network administrator, network infrastructure designer, web designer, etc. Besides, many students of our department have started their own careers, doing businesses related to Information Technology. Their achievements are successful.

Diploma Majors
Due to the wide scope of Information Technology, the Department of Computer Science is divided into two divisions:

1. Diploma in Information Technology
Based on the information technology, business and industrial needs, the curriculums are designed to well-equip the student with the techniques and knowledge in the application and process of Information technology, as well as to train the student to be excellent at data analysis and information management. The graduates will also be outfitted with both computer and business knowledge so that they will be able to enter into the employment market with the advantages of strong technical skills.

2.Diploma in Computer Science
This course has been designed in response to the needs of the rapid development of the country and to support the growth and success of the Multimedia Super Corridor project introduced by the government. The design of the course curriculums not only emphasis on the academic theories and the practical application, but also take into considerations of the future and development for the students. Therefore, it covers most of the aspects of Information Technology. System analysis as well as development and software programming are two focuses of the professional training program.
