| Established in April
1999, the Continuing Education Centre is an avenue for
cooperation between the College and external parties.
It holds a vision of becoming a “Life-long education”
centre for humanities and technology in order to build
a knowledge-based society while meeting the learners'
various needs in this multifaceted era. Objectives
- To offer a wide range of courses to meet the various
needs of the learners
- To build a customer-focus directive, and provide
the general public with “Life-long Learning”
counseling support
- To establish a good learning environment by setting
up spacious and well-lit classrooms, and to provide
computer-aided teaching
- To provide teaching standard of the highest quality
by employing qualified lecturers
- To conduct performance survey in order to improve
our teaching standard
Bearing in mind the mission of serving the public and
raising College development funds, the Continuing Education
Centre is divided into the Social Service Unit, the
Advance Education Unit and the College to Business (C2B)
Unit, truly practicing the role of social education,
research, and consultation.
1. Public
Service Unit
Holding the idea of reciprocating the public's support
to Southern College as a driving force, the Public Service
Unit organizes various social-awareness seminars, case
study research seminars and teachers training programmes.
The teachers training programme represents one of Southern
College's objective to serve the Chinese community,
and it effectively improves the overall teaching quality
and mental strength of the Chinese schools' teachers.
2. Advance
Education Unit
The “Life-long Learning” programme of the
Advance Education Unit provides a series of practical
training courses related to humanities and technology
for learners to keep abreast of the new development
in these areas.
This Unit has received wide recognition for forming
educational alliances with local and foreign education
institutes, organizing credit and non-credit courses
and providing various examination services. The USQ
Distance Education Program is a shining example of such
an alliance.
In order for foreign students to have the opportunity
to experience Malaysia, and also widen their international
perspective at the same time, the Centre has designed
specific courses tailored to their needs, so that they
can experience learning in a vibrant and safe college
environment.
3. “College
to Business” (C2B) Collaboration
C2B refers to a system which possesses the characteristics
of educational system, economic functions and social
adaptability in order to shape a nation that is both
strong in education and economic system.
Therefore, the C2B unit actively cooperates with different
enterprises and community organizations to develop training
programmes aimed at meeting their current needs. The
unit also provides guidance on applying for HRDF training
subsidies.
In the long run, the Centre will bear in mind the Southern
College’s mission of serving the society, and
implement an even higher level of service, more areas
of courses, better facilities and quality, in order
to fully perform the role as an educator to the public.
