The Centre was established on 26 April 1998 and has become the first centre of its kind in Malaysia. The objectives of the centre are to collect and preserve various materials and information of Malaysian Chinese literature for teaching and research at Southern College.

The Location of the centre is currently affiliated to the College library. Situated on the second level of the library are a closed-stack special collection room, an open-stack duplicate room and a showcase of special topics or Chinese Malaysians writers. On the third level, there is a newspaper-cutting resource room and a periodical room.

You can surf the web page of Centre through www.sc.edu.my. The web page includes an introduction, its history, reading service, exhibitions of special topic on writers, OPAC, hyperlinks to the related websites and the materials to be collected.

Since the end of 2002, the Centre has resumed the publication of Jiaofeng, which has the longest history of publication among literary periodicals in Chinese in the world.
